Making the most of your Latex Appliance

Latex Appliances are a great way to round out your Halloween costume. Combine them with great oil based face paint and you’ve got yourself an awesome look! Here are a few tips on how to apply the appliance using spirit gum.

With any latex appliance you are using you can wash them and reuse them from year to year. Just keep them moist in a sealed plastic bag. Latex appliances add so much to your face paint. They give that 3D effect that just really pops!

Keep it Tacky!

For the best application of the appliance apply a generous amount of spirit gum around the edges of the appliance. The center is not as important as the outer edges. With the spirit gum wet place the appliance where you will want it on the body and lift off do this multiple times until the skin and appliance are very sticky and the appliance is pulling the skin up as it is being pulled away. (The key to spirit gum is tackiness! And works best if tacky  on both sides, the side being applied and the side being applied to.)

If you have a corner that just won’t stay down add more spirit gum under the corner and tap the top until it sticks. (This may take a couple of applications and LOTS of tapping, but I promise it will stick!)

The final touch!

Add the face paint make up to your appliance! For the more dramatic wounds you want to make sure you blend your reds, black, and do forget yellow for the bruising effect! After you get the face paint colors how you want them add the blood. Gel blood give a scarier effect and can be followed up with additional face paint blood if desired. The more BLOOD the better!

Face Paint Tips & Techniques

Face paint is a great way to get that added touch to top off your costume. At HalloweenCostumeHideout.com we would like to give you some tips for achieving that perfect look you are going for.

Face paint is a great way to achieve that look!

Whatever character you are trying to portray, begin your face paint with your base color. The base color is usually applied with a cake style make-up. Using a sponge face paint applicator is the easiest way to achieve an even coverage. Wait at least 5 minutes for the base coat to dry, this will prevent bleeding of colors when applying the line work.  When doing the line work for your character use gentle even pressure to avoid breaking the face paint sticks.Character Make-up Kit Always hold stick perpendicular to the surface being colored. To achieve a blended look, use your finger and drag or smear the lines. Apply each layer of face paint in reverse order of how you would like to see them on the face. Highlights should go on last as they are the lightest color to be applied.

Have fun with your face paint and create your very own masterpiece this Halloween!

Tip:

To help prevent your masterpiece from smudging, gently apply a small amount of talc free baby powder to the design. Gently brush with dry makeup brush to remove extra. Voila! You have a perfect face paint addition to your costume!
